NASA’s International Observe the Moon Night Event Comes to Huntsville, Alabama

NASA will host a free International Observe the Moon Night event on Saturday, September 19, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. CST at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. The center is the official visitor center of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center.

Celebrate the Moon, Science and Space Exploration

International Observe the Moon Night celebrates the Moon, lunar science, space exploration and the Moon’s connection to human culture. During the event, NASA experts will discuss lunar science and exploration, including lunar observations made by the Artemis II crew in April.

Event Activities

Visitors can take part in a variety of family-friendly activities, including:

• STEM hands-on activities
• Science stage shows
• Event photo booths
• Face painting
• Talks from NASA experts
• Guided observations of the Moon, planets and other celestial bodies

The event will also feature Janet Ivey, host of the children’s television series Janet’s Planet. The von Braun Astronomical Society will set up a facility with telescopes and offer participants guided tours of the night sky.

The evening is presented by NASA Marshall’s Planetary Mission Program Office.

Media members interested in covering the event should confirm their attendance with Joel Wallace in the NASA Marshall Newsroom by 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18.

Media must report to the Davidson Center to attend the event. Visitor parking is available at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.

NASA will provide opportunities for media to film event footage and interview NASA experts.
