Hillingdon Council to Share Fly-Tipping Suspects’ Faces in Crackdown
Hillingdon City Council says it is taking tougher action against fly-tipping, including imposing fixed fines of £1,000 and sharing images of suspected offenders.
Last month, the council seized and crushed a vehicle linked to a fly-tipping incident.
Mr Bennett said the response to the post showed that illegal dumping was a “very important issue to residents”.
“We are tired of a small minority of residents choosing to destroy their neighbourhoods and communities by thinking it’s okay to dump trash on sidewalks and in alleys.”
He said the council was “taking action to hold perpetrators to account” by sharing images showing the suspects’ faces.
“If they see your face on social media, or perhaps on a screen in a library or leisure centre, they’ll think about whether they want to tip again.”
Mr Bennett explained that identifying someone online requires a “certain standard of evidence”, but said Parliament did not want to “run away” from the issue.
“If you’re going to do it in Hillingdon, we’re going to call you out on it and we’re going to take every opportunity we can to punish you for the illegal environmental crimes that are ruining the lives of our communities and all of this country’s hard-working taxpayers.”
