Chinese AI startup Moonshot has launched an innovative artificial intelligence model, Kim K3, poised to challenge leading US tech companies.
Kim K3 boasts an impressive 2.8 trillion parameters, signifying a remarkable scale and processing capability for AI systems.
The full extent of Kim K3’s capabilities—including coding, knowledge work, and reasoning—will be unveiled when it launches as an open-source model on July 27th.

Evaluations by Artificial Analysis and Arena.ai reveal that Kim K3 performs comparably to leading US models like OpenAI’s GPT and Anthropic’s Claude.
In independent benchmarks, Kimi K3 ranked first in Web Interface Engineering and outperformed Anthropic’s Fable system in blind human preference tests.
The model’s massive size necessitates substantial computing resources for local execution, but its open-source status could disrupt Silicon Valley’s proprietary commercial model.
The announcement has already affected the stock prices of Moonshot’s domestic rivals, Zhipu and MiniMax, causing declines of approximately 27% and 16%, respectively, on the Hong Kong exchange.
