Google Launches Gemini 4 Argon With Strict Limits for Subscribers and Developers
Google is launching Gemini 4 Argon in the Gemini app today, but access is limited to subscribers of the AI Pro and AI Ultra plans. AI Pro costs $20 per month, while AI Ultra starts at $99 per month.
The move follows Google’s recent decision to restrict free users to Flash-Lite, with access to its Flash models no longer generally available at no cost.
Gemini 4 Argon coding access is limited to AI Ultra
Argon faces additional restrictions in Google’s coding-focused products. In Antigravity and AI Studio, the new model is available only to AI Ultra subscribers.
Code generation has become increasingly important since Google’s last Pro model launched, but coding workflows can consume significant computing resources. Even AI Pro subscribers can generate code with Argon in Canvas mode in the Gemini app, while Antigravity’s multithreaded agent workflow appears to be reserved for the more expensive tier.
For users who need something more powerful than a Flash model, Google says it will continue offering Gemini 3.1 Pro for now. The company has not said when—or whether—Argon will become available in Antigravity to users on other subscription tiers.
Gemini 4 Argon API pricing doubles after November 30
Developers can access Gemini 4 Argon through Google’s paid APIs. Promotional pricing is currently set at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, with a 95 percent discount on cached tokens.
The promotional rates are available through November 30. After that, pricing increases to $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens. Developers should factor the higher future rates into any workflow built around Google’s new model.
