The Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5x is available at unusually low prices despite rising memory costs across the laptop industry. The configuration with 16 GB of memory, 512 GB of storage, a 2560 x 1600 OLED display and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 Plus processor is listed at $900, reduced from $1,150. A version with a 1920 x 1200 display is also discounted to $800 from $970.
Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5x deal and specifications
The IdeaPad Slim 5x combines a large, high-resolution OLED display with 16 GB of memory and 512 GB of storage. The $900 model is available through Amazon, while the lower-resolution model is listed at Lenovo.com for $800. The two versions share the same core specifications, with the main difference being display resolution.
A year ago, finding a capable laptop for $900 was relatively common. Rising memory prices have made that more difficult, with manufacturers including Apple raising prices. High-end laptops priced below $1,000 are now harder to find without significant compromises, particularly when a larger screen is important.
A large laptop for desk-based work
The IdeaPad Slim 5x has a 15.3-inch display, making it a practical choice for people who plan to work primarily at a desk or table without connecting an external monitor. It is 0.61 inches thick, which is the same thickness as a 14-inch MacBook Pro.
The Dell XPS 13 is another option at $900, but its smaller size places more emphasis on portability. The IdeaPad Slim 5x instead offers more screen space for office work, schoolwork and other everyday tasks.
Snapdragon X2 Plus delivers strong everyday performance
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 Plus is one of the main reasons this deal stands out. It is the company’s latest PC processor, but volatile pricing has limited its availability in affordable laptops. The chip is described as matching Apple’s M5 in CPU performance and handles everyday workloads smoothly, including multiple browser tabs, applications and background tasks.
The laptop is less suitable for full-time video editing, 3D animation or serious gaming because its graphics performance is not as strong. For general productivity, however, the Snapdragon X2 Plus provides capable performance. The IdeaPad Slim 5x also includes two USB-C ports, two USB-A ports, HDMI and a microSD card slot.
A touchpad that avoids common budget-laptop compromises
The IdeaPad Slim 5x has a responsive, easy-to-use touchpad. Many budget laptops reduce costs by using lower-quality trackpads, but this model maintains a more premium feel for people who do not always use a mouse.
It does not include the haptic feedback trackpad found on more expensive laptops, so its clicks are somewhat louder. Even so, the touchpad remains comfortable and precise enough for regular use.
