Subsea Micropiles to Expand Montrose Port Facility for Floating Offshore Wind

Subsea Micropiles, which has offices in Ireland and Aberdeenshire, is expanding its operations at Montrose Port in Scotland.

The company’s new facility is expected to manufacture wind turbine components for projects in Scottish waters and international markets.

Montrose facility to support offshore wind growth

Chief Executive Derek Robertson said Scotland was an important base for the company’s growth.

“We rely on the wealth of talent, skills and offshore experience here to develop our technology and services, and expand into global markets.”

Mr Robertson added that Subsea Micropiles’ products could be manufactured locally, helping to maintain significant economic benefits in Scotland through engineering, marine services and offshore supply chains.

Investment expected to support Scottish jobs and supply chains

Scotland’s Deputy First Minister, Mr Swinney, said the country was already recognised as being at the forefront of floating offshore wind development.

“The investment behind today’s announcement is a sign of our strong belief in this sector and the skilled workforce, innovation and expertise that exists here.”

He said Subsea Micropiles’ commitment to expanding at Montrose Port would help ensure that the economic benefits of the energy transition remain in Scotland.

The expansion is expected to create quality jobs in Angus and the North East, support local businesses and strengthen industrial capacity.

Mr Swinney also said SSE’s selection of Montrose as a preferred location for the Berwick project would strengthen Scotland’s offshore wind supply chain and create more jobs and investment in skills, infrastructure and local communities.
