Why the International Space Station Matters

For more than 25 years, people have lived and worked continuously on the International Space Station, advancing scientific knowledge and conducting research that would be impossible on Earth.

The space station will help NASA understand and overcome the challenges of human spaceflight, expand commercial opportunities in low Earth orbit, and build the foundation for long-term missions to the Moon and Mars as part of the Artemis program.
