The top science fiction books of the year have arrived. One standout is The End of Everything by M. John Harrison. This gripping tale may be shorter than a typical novel, but it delivers an unforgettable experience.

In this imaginative narrative, Philip and his artistic grandmother, Marnie, navigate life in southern England following an alien invasion. The mysterious iGhetti has caused mainland Europe to seemingly vanish, muddling reality with illusion. Artifacts of intrigue wash ashore, while "bad spots" intermittently influence individuals, distorting their perceptions.

Philip is on a quest for alien artifacts, seeking profit, while Marnie expresses her creativity through art. Their actions defy initial expectations, adding depth to their characters.

Echoing the themes of Roadside Picnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, where detached aliens leave behind perilous remnants, the narrative also resonates with John Wyndham's Midwich Cuckoos, where pregnancy marks an alien encounter. Yet, The End of Everything stands uniquely original and compelling.

Additionally, June brings us two remarkable titles. First up is The Traveler by Joseph Eckert.

Scott Trader jumps through time every day at 7:52 a.m., with each jump doubling in time. His son Lyle, dedicating his life to theory and assisting his father, becomes pivotal to the story as they traverse the complexities of time travel.

As the plot unfolds, the story shifts from a thriller to a true science fiction narrative, compelling readers to ponder the underlying question of identity and purpose behind Scott's temporal journey.
