Amazon Prime Benefits: 20+ Perks You May Be Missing
Amazon Prime is more than free shipping. Members can also access streaming entertainment, exclusive discounts, grocery delivery, gaming rewards, photo storage, reading benefits and more. Here are the Amazon Prime benefits worth knowing about.
Prime Video and sports streaming
Prime Video is included with an Amazon Prime membership and offers original movies and series, including Fallout and Spread, along with other movies and shows.
You can also stream sports through Prime Video Sports, including NFL Thursday Night Football. Prime Video costs $9 per month as a standalone subscription. These plans include commercials. Prime members who want an ad-free experience pay an additional $5 per month.
Prime Day and member-only deals
Amazon Prime members receive access to Prime Day, Amazon’s member-only shopping event. The event has outperformed Black Friday and Cyber Monday in some recent years, although not every Prime Day discount is a genuine bargain.
The WIRED Reviews team covers Prime Day deals and focuses on products its reviewers have personally tested. According to the article, Prime Big Deal Day will take place on October 6 and 7, following the first Prime Day event in June.
Member-only discounts
Outside Prime Day, members may find special discounts on products such as portable chargers, household items and Amazon devices. Offers vary, and not every promotion is necessarily a good deal.
Early access to Lightning Deals
Prime members can receive early access to select Lightning Deals, sometimes shopping 30 minutes before other customers. Whether a deal is worth buying depends on the product and price, but early access can be useful for popular items.
Amazon Prime delivery benefits
Amazon Day delivery
Amazon Day delivery lets you schedule eligible orders to arrive on a specific day of the week. Consolidating deliveries can reduce the number of packages arriving at your door and may help cut down on cardboard waste. If you need an item quickly, you can still choose the fastest available shipping option.
No-Rush Shipping rewards
If you do not need an order immediately, checkout may offer a free non-urgent shipping option. In some cases, you may receive digital credits for e-books, digital games and other content, or an instant discount. You cannot choose which reward you receive, and rewards may expire.
Amazon Prime AI and food delivery perks
Alexa+
Prime members have free access to Alexa+, the latest version of Amazon’s voice assistant. It uses generative AI and costs $20 per month for non-Prime members. Amazon says Alexa+ can support natural conversations, provide personalized recommendations, create bedtime stories and smart shopping lists, and respond to requests in different ways.
Grubhub+
Amazon Prime members receive free access to Grubhub+. Benefits include free delivery on select orders and Prime-only discounts at participating restaurants throughout the year.
Amazon Fresh, Whole Foods and grocery delivery
With Amazon Fresh, you can order groceries for delivery, although availability varies by region. Select Whole Foods products may also be available through Amazon Fresh.
When shopping in person at Whole Foods, scan the Amazon app to receive an additional 10% off storewide sale items and access other member discounts. Whole Foods also offers exclusive Prime sales on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Amazon Grocery Subscription
The separate Amazon Grocery Subscription costs $10 per month or $100 per year. Customers who receive SNAP or EBT benefits may qualify for 50% off the monthly plan. The subscription includes unlimited free grocery delivery on orders over $25 from Whole Foods Market, Amazon Fresh and other participating services.
You can also shop through a local retail store.
Amazon Prime family benefits
Amazon Family allows you to share certain Prime benefits with one other adult in your household. The program also supports child profiles and, according to the article, up to four teenagers added before April 7, 2025. Amazon no longer allows customers to add new teen accounts.
Free books, magazines and comics with Prime
Amazon First Reads
Each month, Prime members can choose at least one selected Kindle book for free through Amazon First Reads. You can read Kindle books on a phone or computer without owning a Kindle device. Nonmembers can purchase two selected books for $2 each.
Prime Reading
Prime Reading offers access to more than 1,000 books and other items, including audiobooks, magazines and comics. Members can also access Comixology.
Prime Gaming and Amazon Luna
Prime Gaming, formerly known as Twitch Prime, provides monthly rewards. The Prime Gaming page may redirect to Amazon Luna, but members can still claim eligible rewards.
Prime Gaming benefits can include in-game loot, free game downloads, downloadable content and expansions, premium currency and free Twitch channel subscriptions. A Twitch subscription allows you to support an individual streamer without paying an additional fee.
Prime members can also access Amazon Luna Standard, Amazon’s cloud gaming service. Streaming performance can be inconsistent, but the service includes access to various popular titles at no additional cost.
Video game preorder savings
Prime members can receive a $10 discount when preordering eligible video games. Some titles also offer free delivery on release day. Look for the qualifying shipping option when placing a preorder.
Unlimited Amazon Photos storage
Prime members receive unlimited full-resolution photo storage plus 5GB of video storage. The Amazon Photos app lets you save, print and share photos while backing them up to the cloud.
Printing is handled through Shutterfly. Prime members receive a 45% discount and free shipping on orders over $35. If you cancel Prime, you must pay at least $2 per month to continue storing photos and videos, so Amazon Photos should not be your only backup method.
Discounted Amazon Kids+
Amazon Kids+, formerly called FreeTime Unlimited, is Amazon’s children’s content service. It works with select iOS, Android and Amazon devices, including Fire tablets.
The service includes parental controls and age-appropriate shows, books, games and other content. Amazon Kids+ costs $8 per month for non-Prime customers, while Prime members pay $6 per month. Annual pricing is $79 for nonmembers and $48 for Prime members.
Fuel savings for Prime members
By linking an Amazon Prime account to Earnify, the loyalty app owned by BP, members can save at least 10 cents per gallon on up to 7,500 gallons of fuel at participating gas stations.
Additional Amazon Prime benefits
Free baby registry welcome box
Some Prime members may qualify for a free baby registry welcome box after creating a registry with at least 10 unique items and $10 in purchases made by the registry owner or other customers. See Amazon’s current terms for eligibility and details.
Prime Rx prescription discounts
Prime Rx offers prescription drug discounts to eligible customers. The prescription savings card can be used at pharmacies nationwide, including Amazon Pharmacy.
Similar prescription discount programs are available elsewhere, including GoodRx. Prime Rx is free to use, so it may be worth checking if you regularly pay high prices for prescription medication. Sharing medication information with Amazon may raise privacy concerns, so consider that before using the service.
Which Amazon Prime benefits are worth using?
The value of Amazon Prime depends on how often you use its services. Frequent shoppers may benefit most from delivery options, Prime Day discounts and member-only deals. Other members may get more value from Prime Video, Prime Reading, Amazon Photos, Prime Gaming, grocery delivery or household benefits such as Amazon Family.
Availability, eligibility, pricing and promotions can vary by location and may change. Check Amazon’s current terms before relying on a specific Prime benefit.
