NASA has painted a 737 in Oklahoma as the aircraft undergoes modifications to become the agency’s next reduced-gravity research vehicle. NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California, acquired the aircraft from the U.S. Air Force in June.
The NASA 737 will conduct parabolic flights simulating lunar gravity to help validate spacesuits and crew systems designed to support future Artemis Moon missions. Reduced-gravity flight operations will be conducted from NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston under the supervision of NASA Armstrong.
In addition to lunar gravity research, the aircraft will support systems integration testing for autonomous flight technologies, advanced sensors, and other digital systems essential to future NASA missions.
