Poolease X1 pool robot review: The cleaning results were mixed. When tested with both organic debris and synthetic litter, the Poolease X1 typically collected only 70% to 80% of the leaves and other debris on the pool floor. The remaining material was left scattered throughout the pool. That performance was better than expected in some respects, but still fell short overall. Leaving 20% of a lawn unmowed would be immediately noticeable, and the same is true for a pool-cleaning robot.
The Poolease X1 also became stuck several times on circular floor drains positioned less than 1 inch above the pool surface. Because there is very little clearance between the robot’s underside and the floor, the X1 can catch on these drains. Its wheels sit so close to the surface that the robot appears to be the perfect size for getting caught. Although it eventually freed itself, the process sometimes took several minutes.

After each cleaning cycle, the Poolease X1 must be removed from the pool with a pole and hook, both of which are included. The basic cleaning process is straightforward, as described above. However, debris periodically became lodged in narrow gaps around the robot’s chassis. I had to remove it by hand or use the jet setting on a hose to dislodge it, which often left me soaked.
It is also worth noting that the robot collected very little visible dirt or silt. This suggests that the Poolease X1’s suction system may not be powerful enough to handle fine sediment effectively.
The Poolease X1’s Value Problem
Despite its advertised specifications, the Poolease X1 pool robot does not appear powerful enough for my pool. I suspect it may be suitable only for very small pools and above-ground tanks. Still, its price of approximately $110 makes it a relatively low-risk purchase and a potentially useful backup option for occasional or emergency cleaning.
That said, the old saying applies: you get what you pay for. The Poolease X1 makes an effort, much like asking a 5-year-old to clean their room. The job may get done eventually, but you should not expect perfect results.
