Lenovo is known for creating unconventional concept laptops, often featuring innovative displays or unusual form factors. At IFA Berlin 2026, however, the company introduced a proof-of-concept device that looks less like a futuristic experiment and more like a laptop ready for production.
The Lenovo Project AeroBlade Concept laptop is built around a new active cooling system developed with Frore Systems. Instead of relying on conventional fans, heatsinks, and large ventilation openings, the system uses air pressure to move heat away from the processor. Lenovo says the approach could enable thinner, quieter laptops while freeing up internal space for a larger battery. The technology could ultimately influence how high-performance laptops are designed.

Lenovo was the first PC manufacturer to demonstrate a laptop using Frore Systems’ AirJet Mini solid-state cooling technology. Frore is also known for developing liquid-cooling solutions for data centers, while AirJet is designed for consumer electronics such as laptops and compact computers.
The AirJet modules, integrated into what Lenovo calls its Active Flow Thermal Solution, draw ambient air into the laptop and generate approximately 2,000 pascals of backpressure. Tiny jets inside each module direct high-velocity air across a copper base layer, helping remove heat from the processor and other components.
According to Frore Systems, conventional cooling can be affected by the boundary layer of air that forms over a warm surface. That layer can restrict heat transfer, leading to higher temperatures and processor throttling. AirJet is designed to disrupt the boundary layer so heat can move more efficiently from the laptop’s internal components to the exterior.
Lenovo displayed motherboard samples from the AeroBlade concept with four AirJet modules positioned along the top edge. Frore says each module can create up to 10 times more backpressure than a typical laptop fan, allowing the system to move air without requiring numerous large vents.
Lenovo also claims that its Active Flow Thermal Solution uses a similar amount of power to a traditional laptop fan while offering greater resistance to dust, debris, and water. Although Lenovo is the first company to showcase a laptop based on AirJet technology, the partnership is not exclusive. Other PC manufacturers could adopt the same cooling platform in future devices.
A remarkably thin and lightweight laptop
At first glance, the Lenovo Project AeroBlade Concept looks like a conventional laptop rather than an experimental prototype. Its specifications, however, make it stand out. The magnesium-and-aluminum laptop measures just 10 millimeters thick and weighs 1.8 pounds.
That puts the AeroBlade Concept among the lightest laptops Lenovo has shown, making competitors such as the Asus Zenbook A14 and Apple MacBook Air feel comparatively heavy. The thin profile and low weight are made possible in part by the compact active cooling system, which leaves more room inside the chassis for other components or a larger battery.
Lenovo has not announced whether the Project AeroBlade Concept will become a commercial laptop, but its production-ready design suggests that AirJet cooling could soon move beyond prototypes and into mainstream high-performance notebooks.
