Google Play Expands AI Search With Ask Play and New Game Finder
Google is expanding its AI features in the Play Store with broader app and game recommendations, a new gaming discovery tool called Game Finder, and a private way for developers to host and share apps built with AI.
Google has already added several AI features to the Play Store, and there’s a lot more to come. The previously released Ask Play feature is becoming a more general AI-powered search tool, while Game Finder will use Google’s extensive Android gaming data to recommend games based on players’ interests.
Ask Play Expands to AI-Powered App and Game Search
Google launched Ask Play in 2025 as a miniature chatbot interface on Play Store listings. Users could ask questions about apps and games by typing them manually or selecting from a list of suggested queries.
Starting today, Ask Play is expanding into a broader way to search for apps and games. Users can ask the AI a question and receive recommendations along with a detailed comparison table. Google also plans to roll out similar functionality through Gemini soon.
Game Finder Uses Gamer DNA for Personalized Recommendations
Google’s other AI discovery announcements focus on gaming. Game Finder is based on usage data collected by Google’s app platform over the years, including insights into how 1.2 billion people play games on Android.
The feature creates a profile called Gamer DNA and uses it to match players with games and other players who have similar preferences.
Game Finder Adds Playlists, Tags, and Custom Recommendations
Players can rate the games they play to adjust their Gamer DNA profile, potentially leading to more accurate recommendations. Game Finder will also offer playlists of games and contextual collections, including relaxing trending titles and lists based on mechanics found in games a player has enjoyed previously.
Users can add or remove tags to further customize the games recommended by Google’s AI. Google says Game Finder will eventually support fairly specific game settings, although it is unclear how much customization will be available when the feature launches.
Game Finder and Gamer DNA are currently rolling out in the US, with other markets expected to follow “soon.”
