Ofcom Imposes £630,000 Fine on Porn Site Operator for Age Verification Lapses
Starting July 2025, adult content sites, including pornography, must implement “highly effective” age verification systems to ensure UK users are 18 years or older.
However, Ofcom, the regulatory body overseeing these mandates, stated that Fapello, the operator in question, failed to enact any age checks and did not respond to information requests promptly.
“Age verification is no longer optional for UK porn sites,” emphasized Ofcom Executive Director George Rusty.
“These measures are vital for protecting children from inappropriate content.”
An investigation into adult site operators was initiated by regulators in November last year.
Ofcom has officially announced a fine of £600,000 against the company for neglecting to implement user age verification methods.
An additional £30,000 fine was levied for the company’s failure to provide timely responses to information requests.
“Providers should be aware that failing to deliver accurate and prompt information when requested could lead to serious enforcement actions, including hefty fines,” Rusty warned.
Following these developments, the site has blocked access to users in the UK; however, regulators will continue to monitor compliance closely.
