Paramount Skydance Plans to Combine HBO Max, Paramount+ and Discovery+ Into One Streaming Service
After months of speculation from customers and the streaming industry, Paramount Skydance has revealed plans for the future of HBO Max, Paramount+, and Discovery+.
Paramount Skydance today completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), ending months of turmoil that began last year when Netflix announced plans to acquire WBD. Netflix abandoned those plans in February. The Skydance transaction is valued at $111 billion.
HBO Max, Paramount+ and Discovery+ will eventually merge
In its announcement, Skydance said that all of its direct-to-consumer streaming services—including Discovery+, which launched in 2021 before Discovery merged with WarnerMedia to form WBD in 2022—“will be integrated into a single service over time.”
The brief statement offers new clarity about whether Skydance plans to discontinue some of its streaming platforms, continue offering them separately, or introduce a discounted bundle.
Could the services also be offered as a bundle?
The bundle theory gained credibility on October 1, when Casey Bloys, head of content for HBO Max, discussed the potential for a combined streaming offering. Bloys is expected to lead Skydance’s collaborative streaming activities, according to statements reported at Bloomberg’s 2026 ScreenTime event.
“I don’t want to comment on what’s going to happen or anything like that, but I do want to mention the HBO Max and Disney bundle that’s been so successful… So could you see something like that happening? It makes a lot of sense.”
What could be included in the combined streaming service?
Skydance’s announcement means that, over time, HBO Max programming such as House of the Dragon and The Wire could become available through the same streaming service as Paramount+ shows including Tulsa King and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
The combined platform would also include Discovery+ programming, such as 90 Day Fiancé spinoffs and Fixer Upper: Welcome Home.
