GoRuck’s Black Friday sale is offering the Basic Rucker pack for $79, a $76 discount from its $155 price. Designed for rucking—walking or hiking with added weight—the pack is built to carry heavy loads more securely than a typical daypack and comes with a lifetime warranty.
Why use a GoRuck pack for training?
For people who prefer working out at home, bodyweight training and calisthenics can be combined with equipment such as GoRuck sandbags and kettlebells. Hiking with additional weight, commonly called “rucking,” is another way to add resistance without going to a gym.
Rucking does not require specialized equipment: a backpack filled with sand can work. However, putting 20 pounds into an ordinary daypack can quickly expose weaknesses in its construction. GoRuck packs are designed to carry heavier loads and are backed by a lifetime warranty, making them better suited to regular rucking and everyday use.
The bodyweight exercise book You Are Your Own Gym has been a longtime workout reference for the author, who also uses weighted equipment for training.
GoRuck Basic Rucker deal
The GoRuck Basic Rucker is currently available for $79, reduced from $155. The offer is available through GoRuck and Shop.
The Basic Rucker is intended to keep weight close to the wearer’s back, helping the load feel more stable and less likely to shift when balance changes. The source describes it as a pack designed to last a lifetime.
Choosing a ruck plate
GoRuck also sells dedicated ruck plates. Sandbags and other heavy objects can be used instead, but purpose-built plates offer a more convenient fit.
The source recommends starting with a 10-pound plate for people new to rucking, 20 pounds for those in good shape, and 30 pounds for people who already train regularly and want an additional challenge.
Basic Rucker versus GR1
The author also owns the Made in USA GoRuck GR1. The GR1 is described as a better overall pack than the Basic Rucker, but the author prefers the Basic Rucker for rucking. The Basic Rucker is used for everyday backpacking and hiking, while the GR1 is reserved for day hikes and trips.
Other GoRuck Black Friday offer
GoRuck is also offering a free 14-liter Basic Rucker with purchases of $300 or more. That means buyers can purchase the US-made GoRuck GR1 for $395—its regular price, not a sale price—and receive a Basic Rucker at no additional cost.
