Anthropic is permanently increasing Claude Code’s standard weekly spending limits by 25% for Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans. However, the change effectively reduces access for customers compared with the temporary usage increase currently in place.
Compared with the current limits, Claude Code users will see an effective reduction of approximately 17%.
Claude Code currently includes a temporary 50% weekly usage limit increase. Anthropic says that promotion will remain available until September 14.
“Starting September 14th, we are permanently increasing Claude Code’s standard weekly limits by 25% for Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans,” Anthropic said in a post on X. “Until then, the current 50% increase will apply.”
Although the announcement sounds like an improvement, Claude Code customers will actually receive fewer weekly usage credits once the temporary promotion ends.
For example, if Claude Code’s original weekly allowance was 100 units, the temporary 50% increase would provide 150 units. After September 14, the permanent 25% increase will provide 125 units.
That means the new permanent Claude Code limit will be 25% higher than the original allowance, but approximately 17% lower than the current promotional limit.
Anthropic confirms Claude Code weekly usage limits will change
Anthropic later deleted its original post and published an explanation that explicitly acknowledged the reduction compared with the current limits.
“Compared to today, this represents a 17% reduction in Claude Code’s weekly limit,” the company said.
Anthropic also said it is working on additional changes designed to give Claude Code users more visibility and control over their usage.
“We’re working on exciting changes that will give you more visibility and control over your usage while feeling like you’re getting more out of Claude. We can’t wait to share them.”
According to Anthropic, weekly usage allowances do not correspond to a fixed number of Claude Code prompts. Actual usage varies depending on factors such as conversation length, model selection, tool usage, and task complexity.
The temporary 50% Claude Code usage increase will remain available through September 13, while the new permanent limit will take effect on September 14.
