Windows 11 KB5124010 Preview Update Adds Bluetooth Fixes, Emoji 17.0 and Copilot Key Remapping
Microsoft has released the September 2026 non-security preview update, KB5124010, for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2. The optional update includes 46 changes, including Bluetooth improvements, Emoji 17.0 support, new accessibility options, and the ability to remap the Copilot key.
KB5124010 is a preview update that lets administrators and users test Windows improvements, bug fixes, and new features before they are included in next month’s Patch Tuesday release.
Unlike regular cumulative updates, monthly optional preview updates such as KB5124010 provide quality improvements and new features but do not include security fixes.
What’s new in Windows 11 KB5124010?
The September 2026 preview update adds support for Emoji 17.0, a new Open apps maximized accessibility setting, and a Recovery Remote Management plugin that expands Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) management capabilities.
The new accessibility setting automatically maximizes app windows when they are opened. Microsoft has also added new gesture controls for precision touchpads.
After installing KB5124010, Windows 11 users can remap the Copilot key to work as the Right Ctrl key or the context menu key through the Windows 11 Settings app.
Bluetooth improvements and fixes
Microsoft resolved an issue that could cause the Bluetooth radio to turn off even when the Bluetooth control toggle remained enabled. The update also fixes a problem that could cause Windows to crash with error code 0x139 while streaming Bluetooth audio.
KB5124010 improves microphone compatibility with certain Bluetooth Classic audio accessories and increases the reliability and performance of Bluetooth LE audio accessories.
Other changes in the September 2026 preview update
- Slideshow wallpapers can now be used across multiple desktops without automatically reverting to the Pictures folder.
- Additional gesture controls are available for precision touchpads under Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad.
- Camera roll backup lets eligible users use OneDrive to protect their photos. The feature is available from the Settings home or Account page and uses a QR code to complete setup on a phone.
- The built-in File History backup feature no longer fails on some Windows systems after installing the September 2026 security updates.
- The PC-to-PC migration tool has been removed. Microsoft recommends using Windows Backup and OneDrive to migrate files, settings, and preferences to a new Windows device.

How to install the KB5124010 preview update
Because KB5124010 is an optional update, it may not install automatically. To check for it, open Settings, select Windows Update, and click Check for updates.
If the update appears, click the Download and install link to begin the installation. Users can also manually download and install KB5124010 from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
Windows 11 24H2 support ends in October 2026
Microsoft has confirmed that KB5124010 is the final preview update for Windows 11 24H2, which will reach the end of support in October 2026.
